Marek Coutu, Trading Up on the Rules for the Assignment of Player Contracts

March 20, 2018: The paper examines anti-assignment clauses (i.e. no-trade or no-move) in the contracts of professional athletes, exploring the effects of such clauses in the context of franchise relocation. In an era of franchise upheaval, Marek raises some interesting and important issues for consideration by teams and athletes, and sets out recommendations for change.
